Linda Haugen

After 36 years as a Peace River North educator, I retired five years ago to return to my earlier roots of creating art. Although I did countless art projects with students through the years, it never left me with enough time to concentrate on my own art. I now enjoy attending workshops, exploring new mediums and techniques and being a part of the Flying Colours Artists’.

Through printmaking I have gone back to concentrating on design with an emphasis on positive and negative space. The Sketchbook app on iPad allows me to play with endless designs and colour combinations.  I have incorporated techniques from Australian printmakers who combine lino-cut prints with painting in gauche into some of my prints. I have learned to carve and print not only on lino, but also plastic and wood. I have learned new techniques such as monoprints, carving MDF and pronto plate lithography. I enjoy the “Big Print Steam Roller” events and have carved several 2’ x4’ boards.

After a trip to Haida Gwaii, where the ancient totem poles are allowed to gracefully return to the soil, I back my pictures on natural materials such as the wood cradle boards so they too can return to the earth one day.
