PrairieRose, the floral emblem of Alberta, is a prickly-stemmed shrub that grows in woods and along roadsides and pastures throughout the province. The deep to pale pink flowers have a distinctive wonderful smell that surrounds the countryside in June and July. In the fall, the flowers turn to bright red fruit, called a “hip”, that can be used to make teas, jams or jellies.
